QUICK THOUGHTS: While remaining faithful to the original's spine-chilling tone, Nia DaCosta's take on the Candyman's legend justifies its existence by modernizing its central themes to fit issues that are relevant in today's divided society. I have mixed feelings about the story itself, but the gorgeous imagery and inspired use of shadow puppetry makes up for it quite nicely, providing the sequel with a personality that bares DaCosta's signature. I was hooked, pun intended, from beginning to end!
