A lively biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody is able to capture the essence of this legendary band through Rami Malek’s electrifying performance. It delves deep into Queen’s history but suffers from a long runtime and messy script that deny it from becoming an even bigger hit.

First off, I have to stress on the fact that Rami Malek’s portrayal of Freddie Mercury is simply phenomenal! He embodies this extraordinary character and projects his personality through every gesture, word and emotion put on screen. I can easily say that this is by far the best lead performance I’ve seen all year. ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is a biopic that tells the story of the iconic band, Queen and focuses on the struggles of its lead singer, Freddie Mercury.

The movie is quite spectacular from many aspects including its lavish production and beautiful shots but fell short in terms of its script. The script often felt weak and couldn’t really set up the band’s formation and jump to fame properly due to being rushed in its first act. The runtime feels awfully long however, one doesn’t feel bored thanks to Mr. Malek’s energetic performance who single-handedly carries the movie and keeps viewers invested. Additionally, all band members gave out convincing performances and had excellent chemistry together.

All the musical performances in the film and especially the live aid concert were perfectly executed and showcased what made Queen a unique band. The movie balances emotions and comedy in a great way and it definitely has lots of laughs along the way. The climax of the movie is arguably the most emotional and powerful part and is able to deeply move viewers. Make sure to watch this movie this weekend and if you’re a Queen fan I’m certain you’ll enjoy it to the max and it will surely rock you!
