When you have two great leads like Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren in such a film, you have to accept the fact that they will “conquer” everything... like EVERYTHING.
“The Good Liar” is one of these light Thrillers trying to present its story without complicating stuff or adding extraordinary elements. It’s an enjoyable film with a simple plot... sometimes too simple it lacks depth. I liked the ending, it had a major plot twist that you might actually predict but not the details. Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren were definitely the highlight of the movie, they shared a beautiful chemistry on screen and their charisma worked perfectly (as usual). The movie’s tone was my main issue, it was too bland that many important scenes passed unrecognized and I felt a bit bored at some point during the second act. Despite its flaws, the overall experience was pleasing and I think that fans of this genre will enjoy “The Good Liar”.
