A slow crime film, King Of Thieves is a dull and unbalanced true event adaptation that centers around the biggest heist in UK history. The ensemble cast had excellent chemistry and definitely elevated the movie but couldn’t save it from its weak narrative and poor execution.

The movie lacks any form of excitement and most of the scenes just feel dull and boring. However, the cast bonded well together and delivered great performances especially Michael Caine and Tom Courtenay. ‘King Of Thieves’ follows a crew of retired crooks looking to pull off their final heist in London’s jewelry district but not without facing a couple of complications on the way.

A heist movie requires a certain level of suspense in the delivery of its plot points and that simply isn’t present over here. Additionally, the movie is quite slow paced and predictable. The main idea of the film is presented in an interesting way and the whole setup for the heist was enjoyable but it all went south from there, leading to a series of tedious events. The film couldn’t maintain a constant tone throughout its runtime and it felt like it was trying to cram too many ideas at the same time. What it needed was some gripping material rather than just relying on the performances of its stars to push its story forward.

The script feels uninspired and doesn’t provide any insight into the lives of the crew members. It made some of the character’s motivations seem unclear and that leaves the viewer unconvinced and detached. Regardless of this, it was enjoyable to watch all these legendary actors come together and deliver something new. All in all it’s an average movie that may please some with its comedic tone but won’t deliver anything memorable and worthwhile. So if you choose to watch it don’t walk in with high expectations.
