Slender Man

Scary bad - 2/10

by Movies-Graded

  • Performances: 2/10

Why? Terrifying, but for all the wrong reasons. Granted, the writing did not really help the actresses do their job properly, but they also lacked everything, from charm to delivery, that makes a performance at least decent. In fact, they were so bad in some scenes intended to be suspenseful that I just couldn't take them seriously and even burst out laughing.

  • Screenplay: 1/10

Why? "Slender Man" has got to be one of the worst movies of the year, and the script is the main reason why. I can't think of a single aspect of it that was even sort of acceptable. The dialogue felt written by a middle-aged man who just googled "how do teens talk these days", which eventually led to the characters being your typical high school disposable teens who just spend the entire runtime making bad decisions. The exposition was also handled poorly (boy do these characters like researching stuff online), and the story boring as hell. Oh yeah, and Slender Man's in some scenes.

  • Special Effects: N.A.

Why? Some CGI was used to give Slender Man his menacing look. It failed.

  • Costumes/Makeup: 4/10

Why? I didn't particularly care for the title character's design, which I didn't find scary or creepy at all.

  • Editing: 2/10

Why? Bad. So, so bad. From frequent cuts to hilarious supposedly scary montages (especially one near the end of the film where 2 characters are making out, you'll know it when you see it), absolutely nothing worked about the way the movie was edited, except maybe the fact that it was only 93 minutes long.

  • Cinematography: 5/10

Why? Surprisingly okay. And by okay I mean better than everything else in the movie, which is not saying much.

  • Score/Soundtrack: 5/10

Why? Unfortunately, it didn't enhance the film in any way, but it neither diminished it.

FINAL GRADE: 2/10
