When you watch Dumbo as a kid, you learn about how greedy people can be, you discover that the world is filled with bullies and that whatever happens, cruel people would always get defeated.
You start using the story as a metaphor.
When you watch Dumbo as an adult, you cry because whether in a movie or in real life, you've seen it all before, and could only hope that reality was as good as this film.
