Capharnaüm - كفرناحوم

A Hollywood-Like Happy Ending Doesn’t Seem So Far Fetched After All. - 8/10

by Miriam Atallah - Movie Sharks

Capharnaum reminded me why I prefer movies over series.

Though there’s a clear protagonist, Zain, with a constant need to escape and hurdles to surpass, there was plenty of focus and in-depth observation on the details of his story and surroundings, which brought Labaki to put the plot aside so many times giving the audience a space to contemplate other cases that our society is suffering from.

Child labor, migrants, refugees, early marriage, poverty, unjust detention, you name it!

It’s very condensed and very intensely linked with the smoothest yet most heartbreaking hook ever: Zain’s eyes.

For once, a Hollywood-like happy ending doesn’t seem so far fetched afterall.
