The Meg

A Bite of so many tastes! - 8/10

If you thought this was going to be just another simple Man vs. Nature premise, think again. The Meg has more twists and turns than your average shark, SYFY-kind of stories. Statham stars as an ex-diver recruited on a rescue mission surrounded by doubts of a massive creature lurking around. Believe me this mission won’t be the only thing you or Statham will be worrying about.

The movie does stand out in its ability to take you on a ride of different genres, horror, thriller, suspense, adventure, and not so over-the-top fun action with some emotional elements here and there. The CGI work is stunning, especially that of the Megalodon itself, although personally I never liked the over-use of green background Chroma which is quite evident in this movie. However, what did not sit quite right with me was its exaggerated intention, direct or otherwise, to target the Asian market by having 4 Asian characters and two main shark attack scenes that involve sheer Asian cast, at times it felt like l was watching an Asian action-adventure with an English speaking star (Statham). All in all The Meg is a thrilling, engaging, and fun feature with a lot to BITE on.
