Honestly, im not into this type of movies but for some unknown reason I decided to give this one a try and im really glad I did.

Usually speaking, true story adaptions are either a hit or a miss, well T. J. Leroy is in fact somewhere in between. While it might not be movie of the year, it still is an adaption worth watching.

The movie follows the true story of a young woman named Savannah Knoop whom spends six years pretending to be the celebrated author JT LeRoy, the made-up literary persona of her sister-in-law. With Laura at her constant side, Savannah fools the literary world.

Generally speaking, this movie is pretty solid from almost all aspects. The things that attracted me the most was that instead of focusing on the hoax that pretty much baffled everyone, director Justin Kelly focused on the psychological reasons which lead both Savanah and Laura to keep on lying to everyone via a made up persona.

In addition , Kristen Stewart, Laura Dern and Diane Kruger gave amazing performances. They managed to create, throughout their acting, a story that's far more deep and personal than the actual script they were reading.

I also really liked the cinematography and camerawork. Each scene was shot from a different perspective, a different angle. This in a way was a representation of the story that's being told, that is both multilayered and complex.

Recommended.
