The Lion King

This year’s biggest disappointment - 6/10

by This Is My Review

I was really excited when Disney started turning their animated movies into Live-actions because it was a good opportunity to present these old stories with a new concept. While many of them succeeded (Maleficent, Dumbo...), the newest Live-action remake and my favorite Disney film:  THE LION KING added nothing to the story. It was a Shot-for-shot recreation, without even trying to “manipulate” the story in any way. Here, you can’t but start comparing it to the original animated film and of course animation can deliver way more emotions than CGI. I have to admit, some of the added details were good but unfortunately everything else was already seen in the original movie and here it felt “lifeless”, not one scene was able to affect me. Many dialogues that had a major impact in the original movie had no effect here although they were using literally the same words. I know I’m comparing too much but you can’t ignore these facts when you have the exact same product. On the other hand, the movie’s technical aspect was amazing. CGI was really good, the animals felt real and reminded me of “The Jungle Book”.... Faveau did it again. Great voice performances especially Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumba. People will probably enjoy this one because it offers all the entertaining elements needed in such films... but I really wish to see more changes in future Disney films.
