Annabelle Comes Home

Just your sweet old friendly Annabelle. - 5.5/10

You know, I honestly wasn't expecting "Annabelle Comes Home" to be this really dark and twisted entry in the Conjuring franchise. But, I wasn't expecting it to be this TAMED!!

Determined to keep Annabelle from wreaking more havoc, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren lock the possessed doll in the artifacts room in their house. But when the doll awakens the room's evil spirits, it soon becomes an unholy night of terror for the couple's 10 year old daughter, her friends and their young babysitter.

To be totally honest, I dont think Annabelle was a terrible movie per say . It was rather a safe version, a tamed one to be more specific, of a truly haunting franchise.

Starting with the story, first things, it didn't really expand on its already existing material nor did it add something new or terrifying for that matter. Aside from having a few really well built scenes towards the end, the entire movie felt kinda underwhelming. I enjoyed it yet I wasn't satisfied.

To continue, I really do believe that this entry had some really interesting characters, all with relatable backstories. This is a big improvement from the previous entries in the franchise, which were all guilty of bad character writing. And of course these fantastic characters were portrayed by some incredible talents such as McKenna Grace and Madison Iseman. On that note, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson's onscreen chemistry was undoubtedly on fire. Paranormal duo of the century.

In addition, Director Gary Dauberman, i believe was too relying on providing some really predictable jump scares that he kinda missed the point of having a really genuinely scary movie. I mean its freaking Annabelle!!! Why follow the same cinematic formula over and over again?? Be creative, be over the top, be outrageous. Create something that will leave people in utter shock, that will shake/scare them to the core. The possibilities were infinite and yet he chose the safest. (why dude??).

Let's not forget, like with all supernatural movies, Annabelle did have a somewhat creepy and intense atmosphere but again it was minimal. Ye3ne this is the MAIN problem with this movie, everything needed a push. It just needed a bit more creepiness and intensity and it would've easily been on a whole new level.

In the end, I dont want to say im totally disappointed because im mean c'mon it was a bit a bit predictable but I just wished it was better.
