Pokémon Detective Pikachu

Good characters can’t save a movie - 4.5/10

A missed opportunity... that’s the best way to describe “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu”. They had the rights to turn one of the most popular media franchises in the world into a live-action movie with Ryan Reynolds as the main character.... yet the script managed to ruin this experience. The story would’ve been way more interesting if it was presented differently. They chose the easy path to explain the actions and it made me lose interest instantly. I felt like the whole script was spoon-fed in the most unoriginal and clichee way. The movie’s comedy didn’t work out for me, most of the jokes were either lame or misplaced. I had high hopes when I found out that Ryan Reynolds will be voicing Pikachu, unfortunately they missed this opportunity too. On the other hand the CGI used in this film wasn’t bad at all, the Pokémon characters felt real especially Pikachu and it was really fun to see them on the big screen. Although it was flawed, but I’m pretty sure that Pokémon fans will enjoy “Detective Pikachu” because it triggers childhood memories and brings their favorite characters to life.
