The Hustle
A comedy that falls flat - 5/10

I’ve tried to make my peace with the overflow of remakes during the past few years, but sometimes it isn’t easy, especially when it’s a comedy that mostly falls flat. “The Hustle”, starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson as two con artists battling out in the South of France, is the remake of the classic 1988 movie “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” (which in turn was a remake of a 1964 film) that nobody asked for. Still, I was willing to give it a chance because of the likability of its two stars. When it works, the movie’s a riot. When it doesn’t, it’s a total bore, and that’s a shame. I’ve seen worse comedies, and so have you. But after a while, I noticed that I was marking time, just waiting for it to be over. A movie that clocks in at just 90 minutes shouldn’t make me feel that way. I didn’t completely hate “The Hustle”, but I don’t think I’ll end up remembering it a week from now.
