Aladdin

This year’s biggest surprise - 7.5/10

If you really overthink every tiny detail in Disney’s ALADDIN you will find many flaws... but the overall experience was very satisfying. The first act wasn’t strong enough, it didn’t introduce the characters properly, but eventually things got way better. Surprisingly Will Smith was the best part in this film, the moment he appeared on screen everything became balanced. His Comedy was really good, he fixed the movie’s tone and his actions were interesting and catchy. On the other hand there was a HUGE problem with the movie’s antagonist, Jaafar was really bad (not in the right way), he wasn’t convincing at all and I couldn’t feel any threat because he had a poker face the whole time. Some scenes felt misplaced, they were trying to force a message that was already explained and understood since the first act. Costumes, makeup and everything was on point except some Indian moments that lost the movie’s identity for a while. The songs were really good, beautifully executed and many successful homages to the animated film. It was clear that Guy Richie was trying to add many new things to the original story, some of them were good. ALADDIN had multiple flaws, but it was so entertaining and I really enjoyed watching it.
