Long Shot

Flawed yet humorous. - 5/10

Learn this my friends, politics and humor are incompatible.

LONG SHOT, a 'political'-romcom that has zero to slim chances at being anything more than just another new entry that we will soon forget.

When Fred Flasky reunites with his first crush, one of the most influential women in the world, Charlotte Field, he charms her. As she prepares to make a run for the presidency, Charlotte hires Fred as her speech writer and sparks fly.

On the good side, I honestly can't think of a more perfect pair than Charlize Theron and Seth Rogan to take on the role of the 2 leads. Seriously you guys, their onscreen chemistry was undeniably on fire. Sparks were flying all over the place. They both managed to create, as well, a fun and a light atmosphere which we're so used to with these 2 performers.

In addition, Long Shot had, surprisingly, some well written characters and actually nicely developed backstory. Im not saying it couldn't have been better but for an average romcom like this one, this sure surprised me.

On the bad side, the story was absolutely predictable. I was actually hoping, for some reason, for a few interesting twists and turns, some thing to make it a tiny bit more interesting, but no!! It seems like no one, director, cast, staff... Aspired to make anything beyond average!

In addition, two hours felt like two decades. The entire runtime could've been compressed into an hour and a half maximum with a way more satisfying outcome. There's no need for all those extra scenes and shenanigans.

Last thing i would like to talk about is that this movie was at its best and funniest when it didn't take itself seriously like in part one. But Levine was insisting on adding some political opinions in other parts which I believe totally backfired and ruined the entire atmosphere. Again politics and comedy dont mix.

Finally, Long Shot is not the kind of movies from which you'll learn new things but at least you'll have an honest laugh and a somewhat enjoyable experience.
