Avengers: Endgame

Biggest, most spectacular entry in the series. - 9/10

This is it. The movie we have all been waiting for. Last year’s “Infinity War” left fans shocked, confused, and eager to see how things would end in the final installment. “Endgame” offers excitement and resolution, as it should. But it’s hard to talk about it without revealing key moments. Actually, it’s hard to talk about it at all. All you need to know is that it picks up right where “Infinity War” left off, with Thanos (a truly terrific Josh Brolin) wiping off 50% of the world’s population. That’s it. I won’t say more. I’ll say this though: it’s an epic conclusion, in which the journey as well as the destination matter, and there are so many surprises along the way. So props to the Russo brothers for a vividly staged finale, eye-popping visuals, and a rollercoaster of emotions that made me remember why I fell in love with this franchise in the first place. And at 180 minutes, one can truly ask this: how do you give everyone a chance to shine? In the hands of the Russo brothers, it feels like a piece of cake. It was up to them to convince us that the past 11 years mattered, and they’ve succeeded with flying colors. And after 21 movies, “Endgame” finally pulls all the missing pieces together, making it the biggest, most spectacular entry in the franchise. It gives the fans a proper conclusion, and leaves them with a sense of awe and wonder. To put it simply, it’s one of the best sequels of all time. I don’t know what’s next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I don’t know if we’ll ever see another series quite like this, produced on such an epic scale over a decade’s time. Whatever one’s criticism, The Avengers have maintained their ability to entertain and dazzle us, from start to finish. That’s an achievement that will stand the test of time.
