Disney’s first 2019 classic soars with incredible imagination! - 8/10

         Disney’s first classic for this year, Dumbo, just emerged in theaters. This new live action adaptation of the original 1941 musical animated film, from the imagination of Tim Burton, has an incredible vibrant style   that captivates the eyes! 

It tells the story of a young elephant, who by birth, has oversized ears that enable him to soar in the sky. Possessing this miraculous talent, Dumbo will help a struggling circus through success. But when the circus plans a new venture, he and his friends discover dark secrets that will shatter everything.

Let me say that there is no doubt in what Disney can do in a film, especially in its new live action remakes that started with Alice In Wonderland back in 2010, which was a box office hit!

The incredible talent and perseverance are really remarkable in their work!

Dumbo had the best artistic elements of all. First, production design was out of this world! It is unbelievable how they managed to build these gigantic sets that really sounded as a real circus. The colorful material they used was groundbreaking. Second, the costume design. I really wanna praise the expert designers who worked very hard on this film!

The costumes were astonishing, from their live colors and mystique style. Third, the dance and circus performance choreography was the most breathtaking piece in the movie after all. The performers were cast from all over the world, especially from Europe. Their immense talent and excellence was perfect. Congrats!

Now story wise, the script development had some weakness. The movie starts in a good pace, but then fast turn of events happens and I start to ask: Why did this happen so quickly? 

So there was a kind of illogical move in the story at some point.

The actors’ performances were divided between good and bad: Dany Devito, Michael Keaton & Eva Green were very good unlike Colin Farrell and his kids, which wasn’t very well developed!

But in the end, it really delivered strong moral messages and themes. Make sure to watch it on opening weekend with a bunch of Disney fans to enjoy this wonderful take on Dumbo’s tale!
