A disturbing cinematic adventure that is one step from being totally genius. This movie centers around young American dancer Susie Bannion, whom arrives in 1970's Berlin to audition for the world-renowned  Helena Markos Co. Meanwhile, an inquisitive Psychotherapist and a member of the troupe uncover dark and sinister secrets as they probe the depths of the studio's hidden underground chambers.

Before I start my review, I have to say that this movie is not made to please all tastes. You will either obsess over it or absolutely hate it. There is no in between.

With this being said, the first thing I want to address in my review is Suspiria's dark and multilayered story and the metaphors that lies within.

To start this uniquely dark story is in fact a small part of a mythology created by 1997's Suspiria creators, Dario Argento and Daria Nicolodi, that basically centers around 3 mothers of extremely dangerous witches whom predates God himself and rule the world in absolute DARKNESS, TEARS AND SIGHS. We have Mother Suspiriorum, the most powerful amongst the 3 and the only one that this movie focuses on in general, Mother Tenebrarum and Mother Lachrymarum.

As I mentioned before, this movie is filled with metaphors and symbols. The one that is put directly on display is the metaphor for the holocaust and the concentration camps. In fact, the whole dance academy, staff included, is one big concentration camp with 'Mother Suspiriorum' as the vicious leader, who is trying to eliminate all threats that she deems unfit of her cult.

In addition, some of the other symbols, which also represent a few of this movie's biggest themes, are the abuse of power, feminism, slavery and reincarnation. A theme we have seen numerous times throughout the entire film. Yes, the details of these themes were not that explicit but we have seen glimpses that can easily translates Luca Guadagnino's visions.

Plus, I found it really impressive that the entire story was divided into 6 compatible parts and how each one took on a certain sub-theme/message. Eventually, all parts came together in a very surprising and twisted final act that I am sure will leave every single one of you guys speechless.

The second thing I would like to highlight in my review and cannot not talk about it is Guadagnino's breathtaking and utterly provocative directing skills/techniques. The ambiance he created and the way he tried to deliver this story is visionary.

He single-handedly created one of the most intense and unsettling vibes I have seen in recent years. And I am not complaining. It was pure ART.

To add, the camera work and movements were also impeccable and helped in creating the 'eerie' vibe that I am sure Luca was looking for. But what's truly remarkable is the score and the soundtracks that can transport you into a world of nightmares and screams. Perfect!

Moreover, I am finally happy we have some well developed characters that are- for once- both multilayered and deep. Each one, no matter how small, played a major role in delivering this unique story. All characters were fabulously portrayed by some incredible talents such as Chloe Grace Moretz, the amazing Mia Goth and the captivating Dakota Johnson, whom I finally started to see as a real actress and believe she just gave us the performance of her career. And not to forget about the legendary Tilda Swinton, whom portrayed no less than 3 different and totally unrelated main characters and still managed to give her absolute best.

In addition, some of the best and weirdest scenes were the ones that involved dancing which were choreographed to perfection. You can cut the tension in these scenes with a knife. But to be totally honest, the first few parts of the film were a little bit slow. But this definitely did not affect my experience.

I mean I am absolutely stupefied and speechless. Suspiria is the kind of movies that you would not be able to stop thinking about. It has been 2 days since I watched it and I still can't take it out of my mind

.

At the end, Suspiria is a freakishly disturbing movie that horror fans will adore. Absolutely recommend it.
