An indie movie to kill the time. - 6.75/10

Rebecca Gleason's Summer 03 centers around a 16 year old girl and her extended family who are left reeling after her calculating grandmother unveils an arrays of secrets on her deathbed.

Relatable, funny and humorous, this indie movie is sure an experience not to miss. What made this coming-of-age comedy an instant hit in my book is the amazing story of 'Love' and the new way it was interpreted. Gleason just set an example on how not all relationships (familial, sexual, friendships..) are perfect and its through the ups and downs and through the bad times that you truly discover yourself and grow.

In addition, this movie is really well paced. It never, not for a minute, lost focus on its main subject. And thats extraordinary! Plus, I really have to praise Joey King on carrying this movie from start to finish all on her own using her incredible charm and unbelievable acting skills. Trust me, this girl has a big and bright future ahead of her in Hollywood. The only way to describe her performance is by saying it was simply breathtaking and daring.

But unfortunately, and even though first time director Rebecca Gleason created one enjoyable experience, Summer 03 still had its share of flaws varying from a ridiculous script to an unworthy and a crappy supporting cast.

The script was a disaster to say the least and the supporting cast were not up to the challenge and all looked like amateurs when compared to the phenomenonal Joey King.

But, with everything being said, I believe that we all should give Indie movies a chance. I mean you never know they might surprise you. Recommended.
