Escape Room is the kind of movies in which you will find yourselves immediately invested. Once you start watching it, there is no way of taking your eyes of the screen.
This movie centers around six strangers whom find themselves in a maze of deadly mystery rooms and must use their wits to survive. What starts out as seemingly innocent fun soon turns out into a living nightmare when they discover that each room is an elaborate trap that is part of a sadistic game of life and death.
Judging from what I saw in the trailers, Escape Room looked like an underwhelming remake of 'CUBE'. While it contained some similarities, this movie actually had some unique features of its own and did a remarkable job of setting the right tone from the very beginning with an intensely executed sequence of a death trap gone wrong.
Soon after, a suspenseful vibe took over and I immediately found myself immersed and captivated by what I was watching.
Adam Robitel did a fabulous move by capturing the story from different angles, this only made it more intense and stressful. In addition, the concept behind the rooms is really well thought about. The psychological aspect that each room had on a specific player/character helped us connect to them more and even sympathize them. I also liked how Robitel focused on the way these players worked together in order to survive which, to a point, sends an inspiring message about team work and success.
The cast was a surprise, and not in a good way. Logan Miller and Nik Dodani were fantastic and their performances were spot on but the rest felt like amateurs and were not as intense as i would have hoped. This totally bummed me out. In addition to the cast, the storyline had a really solid beginning with a dash of a few necessary twists but towards the end it kind of took on a different direction and started to become predictable.
Nevertheless, Escape Room is one hell of a suspenseful movie that i wholeheartedly recommend!!
