The Prodigy

A Horror Movie Starring a Kid. Your First Thought? - 5/10

A horror movie starring a kid. Your first thought? He's possessed of course! But that predictable plot doesn't captivate thriller junkies anymore, does it?

So how about we throw judaic religious beliefs behind, and try tackling a trendier concept?

Whilst Buddhism hasn't been mentioned once throughout the film, The Prodigy revolves around reincarnation. Instead of having the spirit of ol' uncle Satan taking over an innocent soul, this time it was the soul of a late murderer who came back to life to finish what he started.

Sloppy script with inconsistent scientific evidence, it's sad to see such a topic being treated firvolously.

Conversely, Jackson Robert Scott's performance was superb, and it was nice seeing Taylor Schilling out of her Orange is the New Black uniform.

Oh, and I forgot to say something about hands in my review. Why? Well supposedly, the plot had to answer that question along with many others like: "Why is the murderer a hand collector?" But it still beats me.
