The Sisters Brothers

A new “western” - 6/10

by This Is My Review

It’s all about building a connection with the characters, and caring about them. “The Sisters Brothers” is not a typical western film. If I had to divide it into acts, I would say that the third (and final one) was the best because it had the right “energy” to grab my attention, the first two felt lifeless like a series of scenes put together. I’m aware that the movie’s pace is intentionally slow, but it failed to make me sympathize with the main leads. John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix were a perfect combination and their performances were really good, but I think they only used a small part of the actors’ potential. I was surprised that comedy wasn’t a major part of this film, it’s mainly a drama focusing on the importance of family bonding in a western theme. The movie couldn’t deliver its message to me, but it’s not a bad one either.
