Colette

A piece of cinematic perfection. - 8.25/10

This is Colette, a story of sex, love, betrayal and manipulation.

After moving to Paris, author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette agrees to ghostwrite a semi-autobiographical novel for her husband. Its success soon inspires her to fight for creative ownership and overcome the societal constraints of the early 20th century.

This film is a cinematic MASTERPIECE that is filled with humor, charmand empowering life messages. You see, Colette is a movie with many layers, from the surface it feels like director Wash Westmoreland wasn't quite sure what to create - so viewers might find it hard to label this movie - but as you start to interpret every move, every scene, every character and every word, trust me you'll be mind blown by how much "diverse" and dramatic this movie is.

While Colette tackled numerous interesting subjects such like sexuality, female repression, feminism in the 20th century and gender fluidity... Westmoreland, not one time, lost focus on what's truly important : Colette and her story.

The captivating story of a novelist whom challenged all the norms in 19th century Paris and became a worldwide name which radiates inspiration and sophistication.

And  who's more worthy than Keira Knightley to embody such legend? Knightley was possessed, she delivered the performance of her career. Absolutely charismatic and appealing, she managed to steal every scene with her witty smile and exceptional acting skills.

Not to forget about the impressive cinematography, the colors, the angles, the set, the costumes, everything was screaming perfection.

I rarely find a movie to this damn good. No matter what i say/write i can never do this movie justice.

It is a piece of cinematic perfection.

I highly recommend it.
