Widows

The Academy will fall in love - 7.5/10

“Oscar material”, that’s how you describe films that are released in this period of time and aim for one specific goal: to grab the golden Statue. Don’t get me wrong these are not bad movies, and “Widows” is a great example, it has everything the Academy loves and will definitely be nominated for multiple awards, but thinking about its elements... I find nothing fascinating. The story was good, but the final scenes were too rushed they made no sense, many unanswered questions and many problems were solved easily. Acting was great especially Viola Davis and Liam Neeson, they worked perfectly as a couple in my opinion. Daniel Kaluuya’s character was my favorite and he knew how to balance between serious moments and humor. The movie holds some really good messages and real situations that should be exposed in that way to show the world how cruel mankind can be, and I respect that. “Widows” is a very good drama, but has nothing extraordinary or exceptional to deliver, unlike other movies by Steve McQueen.
