Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

An enchanting journey through the wizarding world! - 7.5/10

by The Movie Inspector

An entertaining fantasy film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald succeeds at enchanting viewers with its adventures through the wizarding world. The movie is as magical as expected and delves deeper into its content as the stakes rise higher.

To begin with, this highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 hit ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ does a great job at expanding its story and presenting the threats that lie ahead. However, the movie is quite overstuffed with characters and subplots that it gets quite overwhelming and feels like it lacks solid focus. ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald’ follows Newt Scamander as he journeys across Europe to help put an end to the imminent threat that Grindelwald holds over the wizarding world.

The movie flows smoothly but is a bit slow in its first act. It builds up on a lot of material to work with and at certain points it feels excessive but never does it allow you to get bored or detached. In fact, it has the same irresistible charm as its predecessor. Great performances by Eddie Redmayne and Johnny Depp who prove their talent yet again. There are some great comedic scenes along the way, epic interactions with the beasts and a constant magical tone that allows fans to connect to the ‘Harry Potter’ films. Fans will also enjoy the numerous Easter eggs along the way.

Some characters are well introduced and explored through the movie whereas others felt out of place. The movie really has everything a fan can expect but my main issue was how it felt like a build up for the following movie rather than working on itself further. All things considered, it does not disappoint and ends with a third act that is guaranteed to get all potterheads super hyped for the next entry in the series. So make sure to watch it this weekend and let me know what you think!
