Sonic the Hedgehog 2

The Best Video Game Adaptation! - 7/10

by Dr. Cinema

“Sonic the hedgehog 2” is  the best video game adaptation ever but is it a good movie? Well certainly not.  After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove that he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr.Eggman returns with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of a mystical emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands. The story in this movie is bigger but it's sadly the same as the first one. They did not change a single thing in the plot except for adding 2 new characters who are Knuckles played by Idris Elba and Tails played by Colleen O'Shaughnessey and expanding on Sonic’s relationship with Tom. Not all of it was bad but I was personally disappointed a bit with how they handled the direction of it. The jokes were pretty funny. They are pretty meta if I were to describe them! Not to mention, Jim Carrey is still amazing as Robotnik or Dr.Eggman. I can’t get tired of this actor! I hope he does not retire from his acting career because he absolutely knocks it out of the park with this role. And about that post credit scene, oh boy! Let me say this “You’re in for a surprise if you are a sonic fan!” It sets up the third movie in the franchise entitled “Sonic The Hedgehog 3” pretty well. I am really looking forward to it and hope they can change some things with it. Let’s talk about the visuals here. The visuals in this movie are top-notch! From the well-modeled CGI characters to the animation, I can confidently say that “Sonic The Hedgehog 2” improved on its predecessor's visuals. Not saying that the first movie had bad visuals but the sequel improved it by a mile! Do Keep in mind that this movie had a much higher budget than the first one. Furthermore, the anime style used in the movie and in particular in the fight scenes was awesome. It really added a sense of freshness to it. Whether it be the action sequences, the CGI or the story “Sonic The Hedgehog 2” improves on its predecessor in every way possible!
